Age Concern calls for NHS to prioritise depression

Depression is the most common mental health problem occurring in later life. A third of older people experience depression and only half of those who discuss it with their GPs are diagnosed and receive treatment. Age Concern is calling for the NHS to take immediate action by making depression a priority.

Age discrimination to be made illegal

That's one of the claims being made about the Government's Equality Bill, which was announced in a statement on June 26th by Equalities Secretary Harriet Harman. The new legislation is aimed at tackling "harmful" age discrimination and will not affect benefits for older people, such as free bus travel, or companies, such as Club 18-30 holidays and Saga insurers which offer services to specific age groups.
Cancer
Cancer is a disease of the cells of the body. There are different cancers, which affect many different parts of the body. People of any age can get cancer but the risk of getting it grows as we get older. Half of all cancers first appear in people over the age of 70.

They can also be useful for doing things like household accounts. You can also use a computer to use the internet and send emails.

More and more people are using the internet and the number of older users is growing all the time. It is a huge source of information and can help you do all sorts of things such as researching something you’re interested in, shopping, booking a holiday or checking your train is on time. You can also use the Internet to send electronic mail or email which allows you to keep in touch with friends or family across the world quickly and cheaply.
