    Needs of older prisoners not being met

    A report published by the Prison Reform Trust provides evidence that older prisoners face isolation and discrimination because the Government is failing to meet their specialist health, social and resettlement needs, with some wheelchair-bound prisoners unable to join in day-to-day prison activities.

    Neighbourhood Network Schemes - progress of joint review

    During 2008 Adult Social Care (Leeds City Council) and NHS Leeds have jointly been carrying out a full review of all the Neighbourhood Network Schemes (NNS) in Leeds to help decide the shape of services to meet the future needs of older people. Evidence and results were presented to managers and trustees of NNS (and others from the older people's voluntary sector) at a 'Big Event' at Leeds Civic Hall on 28th November.

    New resource pack to help combat isolation of older people

    Leeds Older People's Forum and the LinkAge Plus project have launched a resource pack to help tackle social isolation among older people. The pack is aimed at all professionals working with older people in Leeds. There will also be associated training. The scheme is linked to Older Better, Leeds strategy to promote a healthy and active life for older people.

    Older people in Leeds to be 'Dignity Watchdogs'

    Older people are to be recruited to audit how well people's dignity is promoted and protected by staff in residential care and nursing homes throughout Leeds. As part of the national 'Dignity in Care' campaign led by the government, the new 'Dignity Watchdogs' will interview residents and staff to assess how residents' rights are upheld, how their privacy is protected and how people are able to complain without fear of reprisal.

    Post Office closures - have your say

    Controversial plans for the closure of 22 Leeds Post Offices have caused serious concern throughout the city. The Post Office represents a traditional sense of community where older people often meet. For older people without transport these imminent closures may cause real problems.
